Rowan Peck | Clinical Psychologist

听Kia ora, My name is Rowan. I was born in the UK and moved to NZ as a teenager with my family. I went to school in South Canterbury 鈥 which I still think of as home. After leaving school I worked as an outdoor instructor, and then in emergency services for around ten years before deciding to train as a psychologist. I still love to get outdoors as much as possible in my free time - usually facilitated by obsessively followed hobbies.

After completing my training as a Clinical Psychologist (at Victoria University, Wellington) I worked for a few years in the disability sector, primarily providing assessment and support for people of all ages with neurodiversity and disabilities. I then worked as a Senior Psychologist for Te Whatu Ora, in adult community mental health teams at Hillmorton Hospital, before joining the UC clinical programme team as a Clinical Educator. I love working with students to support future generations of clinical psychologists - in order to support our communities better.

My areas of interest include trauma, dissociation, stress and resilience, grief and adjustment, rural mental health, and neurodiversity. I am also particularly passionate about the unique factors associated with rural mental health, and with emergency services personnel. I have training and experience using a number of different therapy modalities, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Metacognitive Therapy (MCT) 鈥 all of which I am happy to talk about and explain.

Sophia Bennetts | Clinical Psychologist

Kia ora, my name is Sophia, and I have whakapapa links to Te Ati Awa in Te Whanganui a Tara, Ireland, Scotland and England. I spent my early years growing up on the south side of 艑tautahi watched over by the Ng膩 Kohatu Whakarakaraka o Tamatea P艒kai Whenua (Port Hills) and have since lived in most of the other suburbs. Now I live in the city with my husband, and we spend our spare time enjoying the ongoing regeneration of Christchurch from the city to the sea.听

I have been working as a registered clinical psychologist since 2020, after almost a decade at the 蘑菇视频在线观看 | Te Whare W膩nanga o Waitaha. UC is where I also completed a master鈥檚 thesis as part of a longitudinal study in child development. My professional experience is predominantly with Ara Poutama | The Department of Corrections where my work was focused on understanding the risks associated with recidivism, and conducting group and individual treatment with those housed in prison. This means that I have worked with a very diverse range of people, all genders, from different walks of life, with complex and difficult life histories. In this role I developed a special interest in working with those who have neurodivergence (takiw膩tanga, aroreretini), personality differences, and generalised difficulties with self-regulation and/or interpersonal functioning.听

I am trained in CBT, DBT and ACT modalities and flexibly apply these to best suit the client based on their presentation. I also have a special interest in using neuropsychological methods to understand the relationship between our brains and behaviour. There is a great deal still to discover about how our brains work, and what we know so far can really enhance our application of therapeutic interventions!

I have been a Clinical Educator at UC since February 2025, and also run a small private clinic in my own time. I value honesty, humility and autonomy, and my goal is to support my clients to develop their own self-understanding and walk alongside them as they seek new ways to cope with the demands of life.听
