Rooted in tikanga M膩ori and the values of manaakitanga and whanaungatanga, this ceremony provides a space where graduates can be acknowledged not only for their achievements within the university, but also for the strength and support of their wh膩nau, hap奴, and iwi who have walked alongside them.

About T艒ia Mai
T艒ia Mai is a kaupapa led by UC M膩ori, in partnership with Te Akatoki, that gives 膩konga M膩ori at Te Whare W膩nanga o Waitaha the chance to take part in a full marae-based w膩nanga experience. The kaupapa is all about building whanaungatanga, sharing k艒rero and local history, and strengthening connections to Ng膩i Tahu marae and whenua.
听
2025 W膩nanga
In 2025, T艒ia Mai was held at Wairewa Marae, located in the takiw膩 of Ng膩i Tahu. While the event has been held in previous years, this was the first one in a while and acted as a pilot for future w膩nanga.
The experience included an overnight stay at the marae, a p艒whiri, k艒rero tuku iho, as well as a haerenga to culturally significant sites around Wairewa. The w膩nanga offered space for both first-time and returning marae-goers to connect with Te Ao M膩ori, the whenua, and each other.
